Qualcomm’s new series to bring on-device AI, camera improvements in the 1H of 2018. The announcement of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 700 mobile platform series for the premium segment of smartphones was made at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. And the commercial samples of the first Snapdragon 700 mobile platforms series are expected to ship to customers in the 1st Half of 2018.



This recently announced series is focusing on acquiring the features that have so far been part of the Snapdragon 800 series to the high-tier mobile segment which is just below the flagship segment of the phones.

Some of the improvements aimed to bring in the Snapdragon 700 series  include on-device artificial intelligence (AI), camera improvements, device performance & power according to Qualcomm.

Qualcomm AI Engine will be taking care of the on-device AI portion, which is the heterogeneous computing been offered by the combination of the Spectra ISP, Kryo CPUs, Hexagon vector processor, Adreno visual processing subsystems will be taking care of the rest.

Four major areas of improvement has been highlighted by Qualcomm.

The Qualcomm AI Engine, in the AI department, will be offering 2x improvements on on-device Artificial intelligence apps as compared to Snapdragon 660 series.

To ensure optimal capture and to share videos, learn voice and speech alongside the longer lasting devices, the Hexagon Vector processor, Adreno Visual Processing subsystem & the Kryo CPU would work in tandem.

Qualcomm Spectra ISP will

be used in the camera improvement department, to its limits for the delivery of the improved image quality in different lighting conditions.

Also, some professional-grade camera features are being anticipated to come to phones sporting the Snapdragon 700 series chipsets.

As the connectivity is concerned, Qualcomm claims that the announced series will feature fast LTE, carrier Wi-Fi features & enhanced Bluetooth 5.

Qualcomm also promises that the Snapdragon 700 series will bring about new architectures across the mobile phone platform including the Spectra ISP, Kryo CPU, Adreno visual processing system.

Qualcomm claims that a 30% improvement in power efficiency & better battery life across applications have been made than the Snapdragon 660 series.

The announced series will also support Quick Charge 4+ which is improved to offer 50% charge in 15 minutes, a test done on a 2,750 mAh battery sporting device.
