Youtube to introduce redirect method as an anti-terrorist feature

No longer time has passed since the video-sharing giant YouTube rolled out its strategy of finding out and filtering terrorist content from its platform. Now the time has arrived and the company has undertaken to roll out a new feature, this new feature will redirect people who are searching for violent or terrorist content to anti- terrorist content to normalize their thinking process and to stop them from becoming a potential recruit for terrorist organizations such as ISIS.

YouTube has termed this new feature as redirect method. The new policy and the feature have been created owing to a collaborated efforts of YouTube’s parent company namely Alphabet’s Jigsaw tech incubator and Moonshot (Countering Violent Extremism) CVE. The Moonshot CVE (Countering Violent Extremism) is a company that specializes in anti-terrorist approaches and teaches clients how to tackle extremism.

The company has introduced these changes when lot many of its ads advertisers pulled off their advertisements from its platform as they were being shown with videos that preach extremist ideology.

“When people search for certain keywords on YouTube, we will display a playlist of videos debunking violent extremist recruiting narratives.”

The company termed in a blog post.

Additionally, the company has laid out its future plans for the redirect method. The company is planning to expand this new feature to “wider set of search queries in other languages beyond English”.

Not only YouTube but other social sites such as Facebook and Twitter are also doing their best to curb terrorist content and ideology that have been spreading from their respective platforms.
