Dubai becomes the world largest tea trading hub

Dubai becomes the world largest tea trading hub. Back in 2017, Jebel Ali Port the flagship of Global trade enabler DP World handled 158,000 tonnes of tea. As the quantity equalize 50 billion of tea bags, it could reaffirm Dubai’s leading position as one of the world’s largest trading hubs for the commodity.

Due to such a massive trade of tea Jebel Ali Port is getting marked as the leading hub for the global tea business.

Dubai hosts the sixth Global Dubai Tea Forum organised by DMCC –Dubai Multi Commodities Centre.

According to a recent report by Business Monitor International, Investment opportunities in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA)  region will get highlighted by DP World. With these investment opportunities, industry expectations for s growth in tea sales by 4.9 per cent are associated and the goal is to be achieved in between 2018 and 2022.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem us the current Executive Chairman of DMCC, who claims to have helped position Dubai as a global leader in the tea industry which complements the ever growing food & beverages sector there.

Dubai’s world class infrastructure (according to Ahmed Bin Sulayem) providing access to international markets has played an important role with more than 86 % of tea imports and exports passing through Jebel Ali Port. These imports and exports through Jebel Ali Port offered a wide range of services such as sorting, packaging and re-exporting to regional markets that cover more than 2.5 billion people.

“Dubai has focused on long term growth in the commodity by integrating innovation into the tea supply chain and ensuring sustainable development. Meeting customer expectations is our top priority and flexible logistics services link manufacturers, distributors and consumers”, says Ahmed Bin Sulayem.

Challenges and opportunities faced by regional tea markets will be discussed at 3 day Global Dubai Tea Forum. The event will also highlight Dubai’s position connecting manufacturers, importers and consumers.

The Dubai Industrial Strategy 2030 offering incentives for enhancement of the competitiveness of the Food and Beverage sector, also includes the tea industry.

Aim of Dubai Industrial Strategy 2039 is to make Dubai an international hub for knowledge-based, innovation and sustainable industrial activities, alongside creating new opportunities through integration between economic sectors, with inclusion of commodities such as tea.
