Facebook restricted users to share posts about the recent hack

Recently Facebook restricted users was under attack of a security breach that affected about 50 million Facebook accounts. After that incident, many users took the issue to social media. However, some users reported that Facebook is restricting them to post anything about this hack and they are unable to share posts about the hack.

It seems that Facebook didn’t want to disclose this issue to masses. That’s why people can’t post anything about one of the biggest hacks that happened in the history of Facebook.

According to users, they are not capable to post certain stories from two reputable media outlets, The Guardian and the Associated Press. On interesting note, when some users were trying to post the story, a prompt appeared on the screen indicating that “since lots of people are posting the same story on the platform, it could be spam”.But, it’s not!

Well, there could be a possibility that Facebook flags it as spam due to the reason that how widely a post is being shared.

On the other hand, when users posted about being prevented to share the stories and posts, Facebook declared his position by announcing on Twitter that the bug has been resolved.

What exactly happened to Facebook?

“On the afternoon of Tuesday, September 25, our engineering team discovered a security issue affecting almost 50 million accounts. We’re taking this incredibly seriously and wanted to let everyone know what’s happened and the immediate action we’ve taken to protect people’s security,”  Guy Rosen, VP of Product Management said in a press release.

This incident of restricting and preventing users to share stories about the security breach is actually a robust and typical example of how Facebook’s automated content flagging tools mark illegitimate content.

But, there have not been many events where the same bug has affected posts that often go viral on Facebook. Since, the posts were indicating Facebook security flaws, so they blocked such kind of post in order to avoid any conspiracy. But as we saw, the matter of restricting users turned into controversial story.

People are criticizing the company due to the timing as the automated tools of Facebook have often failed to noticeharassment and hate speech but now detect flagged legitimate post.
