Google is bringing some unity to its messaging app – not in the manner that we had hoped for though

Google is now moving all of the company’s communications products over to one team, rather than having them all over the place –with a bunch of different people in charge. One can then hope that this decision will lead to improvements that will be found all across the board as far as Google’s messaging apps are concerned – this including the likes of Duo, Messages, Meet and Phone app.

Javier Soltero was brought into the mix so as the becoming Google’s VP and GM of suite, and now he will be in charge of all the products that are categorized as being communication products. Anyways, he does say that for now, there happen to exist no immediate plans for there to change or indeed integrate any of Google’s apps. In fact we might have to wait a long time before there are some actual changes brought forward with regards to the functionality of Duo, Messages or indeed the Phone app.

Google hasn’t always been on top when it comes to the large number of messaging and chat apps that exist within the company’s portfolio. Indeed in between all the canceled apps, renames and overlap, there certainly does exist room for improvement.

But much to the credit of both the company as well as Soltero though, in the short time that the man has been at the realms, he has to much of an extent cleaned up all the mess that was made as a result of the failure that ensued due to Google Hangouts as well as its branding. While Hangouts video turned into Google Meet, Hangouts Chat then became Google Chat – a naming convention that makes far more sense. As far as the future goes though, we can hope that he’s able to pull of something of a similar nature with Duo as well as the rest of the apps that he leads.
