GOOGLE PIXEL 4 WOULD UNLOCK IF YOU’RE SLEEPING OR DEAD!

Google relies heavily on their software to make updating issues easier. The extensive photography customizations and features that are mostly software based allow for the ultimate pixel experience, but due to the recognition of a recent flaw, the experience might be under threat.

This time Google ditched the fingerprint completely and instead opted for an Apple like face recognition software that is based on complex algorithms to make it more than just a digital scan of the face. However, the recent flaw that has been recognized seems to allow people to unlock phones with their eyes closed. This means that anybody could open your phone if you’re asleep. This seems to be a major flaw which received a lot of criticism when Google posted the following:

Your phone can also be unlocked by someone else if it’s held up to your face, even if your eyes are closed. Keep your phone in a safe place, like your front pocket or handbag. We don’t have anything specific to announce regarding future features or timing, but like most of our products, this feature is designed to get better over time with future software updates.

Since this is the only way to properly unlock your phone people were worried that Google wasn’t planning on doing something about it but Google seems to have understood that this is a major flaw and needs to be fixed which urged them to release a statement:

We’ve been working on an option for users to require their eyes to be open to unlock the phone, which will be delivered in a software update in the coming months. In the meantime, if any Pixel 4 users are concerned that someone may take their phone and try to unlock it while their eyes are closed, they can activate a security feature that requires a pin, pattern or password for the next unlock. Pixel 4 face unlock meets the security requirements as a strong biometric, and can be used for payments and app authentication, including banking apps. It is resilient against invalid unlock attempts via other means, like with masks.
