Last of the line updates for the Nexus 5X and 6P?

Both the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P were launched all the way back in 2015, and at this point, they are pretty much ancient, aren’t they? While the phones were launched back in 2015, Google made a guarantee to all the users of the phones that the phones will be guaranteed to be ont he receiving end of three years of updates. Now, as 2018 comes to a halt, and updates are no longer guaranteed for either of the devices, we might see an end of an era, as soon as December ends.

However, while there doesn’t seem to be any guarantee by Google with regards to any updates, keep in mind that this does not necessarily mean that the nexus smartphones are officially dead. I’d like to remind you that both the Nexus 5 and the Nexus 6 happened to receive an update, after their supposed ends. And while both the Nexus 5X and the Nexus 6P have already received two extra security patches, it wouldn’t be very surprising to see the addition of one or two more additional patches.

Both the devices are also retaining very strong ROM communities, and these continue to push out custom software for the two smartphones, and this factor also went on to represent a major turning point for Google in the camera department of things.

The Nexus 5 and 6P both are still stuck on the Android 8.1 Oreo, and will not be getting the update to Google’s latest software version – Android Pie. And unfortunately, this isn’t the only thing that has been frustrating users, as both the smartphones have encountered more than a few hardware problems, which has led to bootloops and lawsuits, not only against LG, but also Google itself.

Another problem associated with the Nexus 6P was the fact that when it came, it came with the Snapdragon 810. This resulted in overheating and also throttling in performance. However, while Qualcomm proved to be a bit unstable for the 6P, ground was made with the 5X in mind, since the Snapdragon 808 on the phone delivered good performance, and was the feature of many other flagship smartphones as well.
