Nokia 7 plus confirmed to get Android Pie update during September

The race is on for smartphone brands to quickly unveil which of their handsets will be upgraded to Google 9.0 Pie, the company’s latest version of Android, after it became official, not so long ago. We’ve seen a handful of companies that have already announced lists of eligible devices, including the likes of HTC, Sony, and Motorola, and it seems Nokia isn’t too off course, either.

Nokia has recently announced that all of its Android powered handsets will get the Android Pie update in due course, and it looks set that the Nokia 7 plus will actually be the first Nokia smartphone to get the all so important upgrade to Pie. Now what you must be wondering is when exactly will this update be imposed. Well, it won’t take too long, as the upgrade is scheduled to roll out during September.

If it’s coming as a surprise to you that the Nokia 7 plus will be the first Nokia phone to get the pie update, well, it really shouldn’t. After all, the handset was indeed part of the third party Android beta program which indeed also featured the likes of Oneplus, Sony, amongst others. HMD Global’s Chief product officer, JuhoSarvikas indeed confirmed that the Nokia 7 Plus would be the first snapdragon 660 smartphone to be upgraded to Android Pie.

It won’t be too long before the rest of Nokia’s smartphones start getting the update, either. As time progresses, Android Pie will start spreading across the handsets issued by Nokia. It is likely that the higher-specced models, including the likes of the Nokia 8 Sirocco, and also the Nokia 6.1 will get the update sooner rather than later.

Now something which is going on in the minds of many people, and probably yours too : how can Nokia, amongst other companies such as the Essential get the update so quickly, while other companies such as Huawei, Samsung, and LG have to wait for their turn for so long? Well, it’s likely that both these companies, and all the companies of such offer a stock Android-like experience and probably don’t have to contend with the heavy custom overlays we see linked with phones coming from companies like Samsung, Huawei, and LG. And if this pattern is anything to go by, then we can also expect that OnePlus 6 too will get the update in the next couple of weeks.
