Pakistan bans screening of Indian films in Cinemas on both Eids

Pakistan bans screening of Indian films in Cinemas on both Eids. both big events Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha, you would not be able to watch any Indian movie in cinemas as no cinema across Pakistan will be allowed to show Indian movies during the Eid.

Recently, Ministry of Information, Broadcasting, National History and Literary Heritage and Central Board of Film Censors issued the notice barring the Pakistan Film Exhibitors’ Association from showing foreign movies.

According to notification, the reason behind this move is to promote local movies on the festivals, because at these events more audience is attracted towards cinemas than usual.

The recent notification reserved all importers and distributors of foreign films from screening Indian films during both Eids. Furthermore, according to notice, this ban will remain in place starting two days before Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha till two weeks after the Eids.

Danyal Gilani, Director Ministry of I&B tweeted,

 “Federal Govt has imposed restriction on the screening of Indian movies in Pakistani cinemas on the occasion of Eid ul Fitr & Eid ul Azha. To promote local film industry, cinemas in Pakistan would not be able to screen Indian movies 2 days before & 2 weeks after the Eid days.”

The Punjab and Sindh Film Censor Board have also been told the same.

However, the ban has not been imposed lifetime on Indian films. It’s temporary for Eid events and Indian films can be screened before and after Eid.

We have seen that members of the Pakistani film industry had been demanding for such a ban for a long time and it seems that the officials have at last paid attention to some of their concerns, taking into account that Bollywood films have not been totally banned.

On the other hand, this Eid Pakistani films releasing includes Mahira Khan-Shehryar Munawar’s “7 Din Mohabbat In”, Moammar Rana-Sonya Hussayn’s “Azaadi” and Javed Sheikh’s directorial “Wajood” featuring Danish Taimoor.

Furthermore, much awaited, Pakistani Air Force based “Parwaaz Hai Junoon” was also anticipated to release this Eid. Though, it has been pushed to Eid-ul-Azha given the existing overcrowding of films at the box-office on Eid-ul-Fitr.
