Pakistan Witnessed a Drastic 74% Dip in Mobile Imports to $473 Million in FY23

Pakistan’s import of mobile phones during the initial ten months (July-April) of the ongoing fiscal year 2022-23 (FY23) amounted to $473.287 million, witnessing a substantial decline of 73.84% in comparison to the imports of $1.809 billion recorded during the corresponding period of the previous year.

In April 2023, Pakistan experienced a month-on-month (MoM) decrease of 28.69% in mobile phone imports, reaching $10.587 million compared to $14.846 million in March 2023. Data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) reveals that mobile phone imports witnessed a staggering negative growth of 95.03% on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in April 2023, contrasting with the imports of $212.881 million in April 2022.

The overall imports of telecom equipment in the country throughout July-April FY23 amounted to $779.413 million, exhibiting a negative growth of 67.71% when compared to the imports of $2.413 billion during the same period in the previous fiscal year.

Regarding YoY analysis, the overall imports of telecom equipment experienced a substantial decline of 87.53%, reaching $34.504 million in April 2023, as opposed to $276.652 million in April 2022. On an MoM basis, the overall imports of telecom equipment decreased by 4.52% in April 2023 compared to the imports of $36.112 million in March 2023.

Imports of other apparatus during July-April FY23 amounted to $306.126 million, marking a negative growth of 49.36% compared to the imports of $604.549 million during the same period in the preceding fiscal year.

On a YoY basis, imports of other apparatus stood at $23.917 million in April 2023, representing a negative growth of 62.50% when compared to $63.772 million in April 2022. However, on an MoM basis, imports of other apparatus exhibited a growth of 12.47%, reaching $23.917 million in April 2023 compared to $21.266 million in March 2023.
