The Pixel 3 to be the first Pixel Phone to feature wireless charging

It has been quite a while since we’ve had wireless charging on a Google phone, hasn’t it? Dating back to the nexus 6, was actually the last time that we had a Google phone coming with the option for wireless charging, and let’s not forget the fact that the nexus 6 was a phone released way back in 2014. With the Pixel 2, many people expected it to have wireless charging, however, with Google’s latest phone in mind, it is expected that it will indeed feature wireless charging.

A flurry of reports have stated that the Pixel 3 XL will be the first phone, coming from the Pixel lineup to have the option of wireless charging. Reports have gone as far as to confirm that Google’s latest and upcoming smartphone will feature wireless charging.

While many can say that Google should’ve continued the trend for wireless charging when it started with the nexus 6, it actually comes as a surprise that Google will feature wireless charging on the Pixel 3 XL. So why exactly is this? Well just some time ago, Google actually stated that the lack of wireless charging in its phones is and will be compensated by the fast USB-C charging. So what exactly motivated Google to go back on its own statement is not known as of now, but Google will probably explain it all during the Pixel event later this year.

Reports prior to these suggested that the Pixel 3 XL will feature a glass sandwich design, much like the iPhone X and it’s sibling, the iPhone 8, and quite rightly, like most of the smartphones we’ve seen in 2018. Now take note of this as you may, but this was quite the sign that the phone would feature wireless charging; after all, if Google can copy Apple in terms of the design, in particularly the notch, why not go ahead and put wireless charging too (much like the iPhone). Wireless charging is also one reason to use glass, rather than metal for the rear panel of a phone, and almost all the glass phonesfeature wireless charging – with the Oneplus 6 being the most notable exception.

It won’t be till early October till the latest phones from Google will be unveiled, and while the release is still in the works and there is some time to wait, we pretty much know everything there is to know about the phones – the design, the features etc etc.
