LG has without doubt been trying to provide a stream of constant innovation within the smartphone market, with the latest evidence of this coming from and within the LG G5 – a phone, which presumably, came with way too many cameras. Now though, the company is apparently looking on to bring a phone coming with an optional second screen. However, what’s interesting is that this won’t actually be a foldable phone.

A report coming in from CNET goes on to state that LG is gearing up to show off multiple devices, and this would include the LG G8, too. The reveal will be done at the Mobile World Congress, which is supposed to be held next month. Now, according to the rumors, one of the devices to which LG is gearing up to launch will feature an optional second screen – and while this is where the speculation is at its peak, there isn’t actually any confirmation whether LG will pitch this as an LG G8 variant, or indeed a completely new series.

For now, it is believed that the extra screen will come as part of a case for the phone, and this would allow the users the luxury of extra screen space to work with. Presumably, the screen would go on to make use of the USB Type-C port, or perhaps, a proprietary connector.

While many have divided opinions on whether we do actually need dual screen phones, there isn’t too much to think about with a second screen attached to a case. I mean, why not, right? This type of phone could quite possibly be used as a folio-style device with a stylus. Another advantage of such tech would be that since the screen would be on the inside, it would relatively be protected against drops and scratches.
