Snapdragon 865 Plus set for Q3 2020?

The very first set of the latest from Qualcomm in the Snapdragon 865 phones have been announced over the course of the past few weeks or so, while more launches are expected in the coming weeks.

Now though, it has been revealed by a leaker that Qualcomm will actually go on to announce a rather improved version of the Snapdragon 865 Mobile Platform in the third quarter of this year – and this will arrive as the Snapdragon 865 Plus (styled as the Snapdragon 865+).

This latest speculation features as a result of a Weibo post that came about courtesy of Digital Chat Station. In the post, it was said that the Snapdragon 865 Plus is scheduled for launch in the third quarter of this year. It was also added that the prototypes will indeed be made available in the next couple of months or so.

Last year, the company proceeded on to release two new flagship processors – the Snapdragon 855 as well as the Snapdragon 855+. Neither the Snapdragon 835 nor the Snapdragon 845 featured with a Plus variant, however fours years ago back in 2016, we did actually see two flagship processors on course – with the Snapdragon 820 and the Snapdragon 821.

The differences that may persist when the two chipsets are taken into account can and may be narrowed down to a boost in performance as both the CPU as well as the GPU are actually clocked higher than the non-plus variant. And so one might imagine that the Snapdragon 865 Plus too wouldn’t deviate from a similar strategy – nonetheless though, it will indeed be refreshing to see the new processor arrive with an integrated 5G modem.

When the Snapdragon 865 Plus comes into action, it is likely to power the second batch of flagship devices from manufacturers that include the likes of Xiaomi, OnePlus, as well as Vivo.
