Xiaomi just launched Mi 8 SE, a mini flagship with hardware level AI

Xiaomi has just launched a perfect midrange smartphone named Mi 8 SE, which is the “Lite” version of the Mi 8. Interestingly, it will be the first smartphone to run the Qualcomm recent Snapdragon 710.

The launch event held at its Shenzen in China where Xiaomi has revealed the Mi 8 SE alongside the Mi 8. It comes with a slightly smaller display and less-powerful hardware in comparison to Mi 8.
It also features an AMOLED display and some smart AI features. Knowing the fact that it would be the first smartphone to run Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 710 processor, it can turn into the most powerful midrange yet.

Design

impressive dimensions, and outer material finish takes cues is like a mish-mash of iPhone X (notch) and Mi Mix (square build), you get a similar cutout on the display and almost the same footprint. It has a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner, there’s no in-display scanner like its siblings, and the dual-cams sit in a vertical array on the rear.

Display

The smartphone comes with a tall and bezel-less display. It features 5.88-inch AMOLED with Full HD+ (2244 x 1080) resolution and has a 2.5D protective glass on top.

In order to deal with trouble of viewing the phone in direct sunlight, somewhat due to the high contrast AMOLED display, it manages up to 600 nits of brightness for your ease.

Hardware

As I mentioned earlier, it will feature a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 with its all-new Kryo 360 CPU. On the other hand, SoC comes with inherent AI photography features and assures 30% more power efficiency in comparison to its predecessor. It also comes with a new Adreno 616.

Talking about its performance, well it’s better than the Snapdragon 660 however not as good as the flagship chips like the Snapdragon 835/845.

Storage

Although, it comes only in 64 GB storage, but for your support it has two RAM options of 6 or 4 GB.

Camera

It features dual cameras, having one 12 MP sensor and a secondary 5 MP depth sensor for improved background blur. Best thing is, they are AI-powered, and use Snapdragon 710’s AI ability to stop noise and adjust settings according to the scene. On the other hand, the front camera is 20 MP.

Software

It gets Android 8.1 Oreo out of the box, with Xiaomi’s MIUI 10 on top.

Battery

The Mi 8 SE supports a 3120 mAh battery. However, for now we have no clues about how fast it charges and info about connector type is not available yet.

Color options

It’s available in Blue, Red, White, and Black.

Price & Availability

It seems budget friendly; if you’re looking for midranger with impressive spec. It comes in two variants

  • For the 4/64 GB variant, its price is CNY 1799 (~Rs. 32,494)
  • For the 6/64 GB variant, its price is CNY 1999 (~Rs. 36,000).
