Government of Pakistan set to introduce E-Passports in two months

Well folks the Directorate General Immigration and Passport of Pakistan has officially announced a very innovative and intuitive E-Passport System, which will made available to the people all around the world in the next two months.Moreover, Mr.Ishrat Ali, the Director-General of Passport and Immigration made the said announcement while he briefed the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Interior on Wednesday, telling them about the whole prospect and the benefits this will bring to the reputation of Pakistan.

Now while he was briefing the parliamentary body about the performance of this new system, Mr. Ishratstated that, “The system has been developed at a cost of Rs. 534 million and can be described as clean, secure and fully automated.”In addition to that, he told the committee that the new system has a particular chip in turn help in improving the overall security of immigration services.The DG Passport further added that for the time being, the department would run both new and old systems all together and are hoping for good results.

He maintained that the fee for the E-Passport is a bit higher than that of the regular one, however this passport will make things a lot easier and convenient for the masses.Mr. Ishratalso reflectedon the increase of demand and stated that the  directorate had givena total allocation of Rs. 244.73 million to in turn establish a regional passport offices in MandiBahauddin, Sukkur, Muzaffarabad, Sialkot, Abbottabad, and Bannu.Out of the total allocation, Rs. 150 million will be spent on Immigration Passport Complex (IMPASS).
