Govt decides to reduce prices of 89 medicines

Federal government decides to reduce the drug prices. In a bid, the price of 89 medicines has been reduced with immediate effect. This will include life-saving drugs, by fifteen percent with immediate effect to provide relief to people.

This was informed in a press briefing by the Special Assistant on Health Zafar Mirza. He said that the prices of the medicines have been decreased under Medicine Pricing Policy 2018. Zafar Mirza also said that the pharmaceutical sector will be regularized. He also added that Prime Minister Imran has directed him to review the medicine policy within two months.

He also informed the reporters that a comprehensive medical policy will be announced to reform the pharmaceutical sector.

During the press briefing Prime Minister’s Special Assistant on Information Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan said that the cabinet fully rejected removal of PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz’ name from the Exit Control List (ECL) with joint consensus. She further added that 24 cases regarding including and removing names of different other people from ECL were also presented before the cabinet. 

The cabinet later approved the placement of four names on ECL, removal of eight names, in addition, the decision on eight other cases was deferred. 

“The cabinet showed consensus on the implementation of one and uniform law throughout Pakistan” PM’s Special Assistant said while answering a question, she also added that cabinet “endorsed the recommendations of the cabinet sub-committee on ECL, which had opposed the request to strike Maryam’s name off the ECL,”

She further announced the package for the families affected along the LOC. She said 33,498 families are direct victims of Indian firing along LOC and each of them would get Rs 5,000 on quarterly basis under this package.
