Here is a guide to disable Facial recognition feature of Facebook. Have you been on Facebook over the previous few days?  If you are one of those replying “yes”, I am sure you have seen a note from the social media platform about its expansion of the network’s facial recognition features.



The notice for the addition of facial recognition feature had been  coincided with a court ruling against Facebook. Earlier this week in Illinois a court ruling that Facebook is bound by the state’s Biometric Information Privacy Act, which needs  both notice & consent before biometric information can be collected from any of the residents of Illinois, was announced.

So we can say that the court ruling regarding the residents of Illinois is a good reminder that Facebook is collecting biometric data on you, and you might want to opt out of letting the social network do it.

For those guys wishing to turn off facial recognition feature of Facebook, here is a guide.

Guide for those on computer. Start by clicking on the down arrow at the very top of any of the Facebook pages in your account. Later on go to select Settings. While you are in Settings, just click “Face Recognition” from the very left column, and then go forward by ensuring a click on “Do you want Facebook to be able to recognize you in photos and videos?”

Now select Yes or No. You are free to choose any of the buttons based on your personal preferences.

But the guys on mobile phones are a bit on different way to get the above task done. So guys on mobile phones! Let us start by click on the three dots shown below your profile pic labeled “More”.

Done? Now go to select “View Privacy Shortcuts” and follow the process by clicking on “More Settings,” been followed by “Facial Recognition.”

 Now, all that you have to do is to click on the “Do you want Facebook to be able to recognize you in photos and videos?” button. At this point, you are free to make any choice, either it is “yes” or “no” just like those on computers.

But the point to be remembered us that the very setting is not still available in all the countries. In case you are lucky one to be in a country where the setting us available, keep in mind that it will be only appearing as an option in your profile in case you are at least 18 years old and you have the facial recognition feature of Facebook available to you.
