OPPO F11 PRO POP-UP CAMERA LEAKS…FROM OPPO ITSELF

The question that OEM’s have been trying to answer as part of the latest revolutionary step in smartphone design is how to achieve full-screen frontal body with the presence of the front camera. Since last year, different companies have tried different ways to achieve the maximum screen to body ratio but that has meant taking hardware risks and making bold moves. It all started back in 2017, when the essential phone was released with a U-shaped notch for the front camera. This was followed by Apple introducing the iPhone X, that lengthened the size of the notch in order to accommodate its sensors for Face ID. Not surprisingly, it was Apple’s phone, although being second to the party, that caught the attention of consumers and other manufacturers that jumped on the bandwagon to spend the next year, 2018, in trying to minimize the notch to as small as possible.

In the process we saw innovative solutions from the likes of ZTE with a rear screen which allowed the rear camera to be used as a front facer, but the downside being endurance issues with the battery having to power dual displays plus the added cost of a secondary display. These reasons made the ZTE phone unpopular, but opened the pathway for other companies to try other ways. Another one of the ideas was the slider phone, with the OPPO Find X, wowing customers with its mesmerizing design with a slider front camera. But that came at a price, literally. Chinese manufacturers were renowned for giving the best bang for the buck smartphones but with the OPPO Find X, it was asking the customers for a little more than they could chew and consequently the slider phone, despite being a very attractive answer to the notch-problem, was another miss, since moving parts in a smartphone are always susceptible to hardware failure.

In comes the POPUP camera, first introduced on a VIVO phone, involving a moving camera sensor popping out of the top of the device allowing for selfie shots. But same story, moving hardware parts have never been fan favourites. However, OPPO still believes that the popup camera has a future and plans to integrate it into one of its devices, this time being the F11 PRO. This leak was an official tease from the company itself.
