RESHUFFLE IN FOCUS: MUNIR AKRAM REPLACES MALEEHA LODHI AS ENVOY OF UN

Pakistan has witnessed another major reshuffle as UN envoy has seen personnel changes with Maleeha Lodhi being replaced by Munir Akram. Maleeha Lodhi had been engaged in the Kashmir dialogue at the UN and it comes as a surprise move by the PM as the announcement came right after the UNGA. No reason was provided which seems unfair, regardless, everyone was wishful to Maleeha on Twitter

Maleeha wrote

Representing Pakistan at the world’s most important multilateral forum was a great privilege, had planned to move on after UNGA following a successful visit by the PM. I am humbled by the appreciation I have received for the PM’s visit and the support I have also received over the years. I wish my successor Munir Akram the best of luck!

On the completion of her tenure as Pakistan’s Ambassador to UN, I would like to extend my gratitude to Ambassador @LodhiMaleeha for serving her country with utmost dignity, diligence and honour. Wish her all the very best with her future endeavours

Maleeha you have served Pakistan’s cause in a stellar fashion in all your diplomatic assignments including at the UN. Wishing you success in all your future ventures too. @LodhiMaleeha

Munir Akram, the man who replaces her has held office for six years previously between 2002 and 2006. The man is of experience and would be a definite asset to the UN representative team for Pakistan.

The question still remains. Why is the Pakistani government involved in so many reshuffles, does that create a positive atmosphere for incomers who would fear more about getting reshuffled than to be focusing on their jobs.
