HUAWEI’S TURN TO GET ON THE SMARTGLASS BANDWAGON

Not many OEM’s have been brave enough to try the smartglass category. It always has been a risky business with issues with the law and mostly a failure in execution for most brands. The need for smart glasses is still questionable but the same could be said for a lot of things these days in technologies. With the basic requirement of reducing human effort, companies are going to extreme lengths to make innovative devices because smartphones are not just the big thing anymore, are they?

Well Huawei wasn’t going to shy away from such a challenge and along with their P30 series and a smart watch they introduced their own version of the smart glasses in collaboration with Gentle Monster, a Korean brand focused on optical glasses and sunglasses.No, it doesn’t contain a camera, so your privacy stays untouched, that is if you’re ok with microphones. The Huawei smart glasses feature two microphones with beam-forming technology so you can talk on the phone. You answer the call by tapping the glasses, and sound comes out from a pair of stereo speakers positioned right above your ears.

When they become available later this year, the Huawei smart glasses will come in a leather case with a USB-C port at the bottom, as well as wireless charging support. Talking about charging, it hosts a 2200MAH battery.The glasses are IP67 dust and water resistant.No price has been announced yet, but the glasses will come in several models and are estimated to launch sometime in June or July 2019. On first look, they look like just your everyday glasses and Huawei should be commended for the work that they put in not making the glasses weird. Under the hood is where most of the magic happens.
