The Highest network globally named Pak-China Fiber Optic cable Inaugurated

The Highest network globally named Pak-China Fiber Optic cable Inaugurated today. Today, an optic fiber system has inaugurated by officials, which connects Pakistan with China through Khunjerab.

The objective behind Pak-China Fiber Optic cable is to provide a direct link between Pakistan, Middle Asia, and East Asia.

It is important to mention here that it is the highest network globally connecting Rawalpindi with Khunjerab at a height of 47, 00 meters. Moreover, it covers a distance of 822 kilometres.

There will be the further extension to this program till Gawadar which will then connect both China and Pakistan. It is the first project under early harvest program of China Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) and the first and only information and communication technology project under CPEC.

Inauguration Ceremony

Earlier today, the inauguration ceremony for the Fiber Optic Cable took place at Pak-China Friendship Center. Prime Minister of Pakistan Justice (R) Nasirul Mulk was the chief guest of the event and officially inaugurated the project.

Army Chief General Qamar Bajwa, China’s Ambassador to Pakistan Yao Jing, Federal Minister for Information and Technology Muhammad Yusuf Shaikh, Huawei Middle East Region President Charles Yang, Special Communications Organisation (SCO) Director General Major General Amir Azeem Bajwa HI (M), and Inspector General Information Technology Deputy General Humayun Aziz were also present at the event.

During the event, the first live video call to SCO’s office in Khunjerab was made. Furthermore, a memento was presented to the PM by IG Communication and Information Technology for the remembrance of this day.

The total cost of this project

Huawei Technologies deployed this project at a total cost of $44 million. The responsibility of operation and maintenance will be upon Special Communication Organization.

Not to know, Pak-China Fiber Optic cable is the only ICT based project that comes under CPEC.

Value addition for Pakistan

Pakistan just got another high-speed structure to connect the country with the outside world through this new cable system. It is also the only way to connect Pakistan with the outside world via land, as all other international cables’ connections are submarine based.

In order to promote the ICT industry of Pakistan, China is investing in Pakistan’s telecom services. Earlier this year, China also promised to offer Pakistan with submarine cable systems which will contain two landing routes in Karachi and Gawadar.

It is named PEACE (Pakistan East Africa Cable Express) and is a joint venture between Huawei Technologies and Tropic Science Co., Ltd. It will extend across Europe and Africa. The deployment of this high new tech cable has already started and it is likely to be active by the end of 2019. This new cable system will have over 60 Tb capacity.
