Both Apple and Google asked by Indian Government to remove TikTok

Recent reports have claimed that the Indian government has asked both Google and Apple to remove widely used and quite popular TikTok app from their app stores.

The decision coming from the Indian government comes just a day after the country’s Supreme Court refused to stay an order by a lower court to ban the app. The request coming from the Indian government is to curb more downloads in relation to the app, with the people who already have the app not being affected.

One of the sources quoted : “The High Court asked the government to prohibit download of TikTok application. It (MeitY) is ensuring that by asking Google and Apple to delete it from the app stores. Now it is up to the companies to do it or appeal the order.”

The open nature in relation to Android means that TikTok might as well be acquired from third-party stores along with repositories. Hence, it is unclear at this moment in time whether the Indian government will also be targeting these avenues.

The decision initially to ban TikTok came after the court came to the conclusion that TikTok was “dangerous for children.” The company did say though that it had removed more than six million videos which went on to violate the terms that it has given out. The officials from TikTok have also stated that they are being singled out in an unfair manner, claiming that they are just like any other social media platform.
