Apple to reportedly get its OLED displays from LG to reduce reliance on Samsung. Apple may reduce its reliance on Samsung and soon it will use LG as a substitute supplier for its OLED panels used in its iPhone X and upcoming devices, according to sources.

This move by the Apple will cut the costs and will help the company to source OLED displays more quickly as they will have LG as a secondary supplier.

Not to know, until now Apple exclusively relied on Samsung to supply its OLED displays. It South Korean company could charge higher premiums since it had a monopoly.

According to Bloomberg, LG will supply between 2 million to 4 million OLED displays in the initial deal, though it tries to increase its capacity. On the other hand, Samsung’s first deal with Apple was to manufacture almost 100 million OLED displays to be used in iPhone X production.

In some previous reports, LG’s name came up about Apple’s pursuit for a second supplier, as the South Korean company has made a comeback to producing OLED displays with the V30. However, here we can go for quality comparison as the quality of the V30 display isn’t as good as Samsung’s OLED displays in its Galaxy smartphones. Moreover LG’s smaller production capacity as compared to Samsung was familiar.

Turning the story, Samsung hasn’t really been enjoying its situation as the single OLED supplier for Apple either. In February, Samsung allegedly had to reduce OLED production after fewer iPhone X devices sold than predicted, and it was also scouring the market for other clients afar Apple.

Well, if sources are right and Apple join hands with LG, the agreement could assist all three companies trim down their dependence on a few connections. On the other hand, Apple didn’t respond to comment immediately.
