APPLE WORRIES CONTINUE IN CHINA: NOT ABLE TO SELL IPHONES

Apple, among the leaders in smartphone innovation and reputation, and without a doubt they have held their own for a very long time against stiff competition with Samsung, LG, Huawei and all other smartphone manufacturers. Apple faithful are increasing globally even though one might say that the rate at which its introducing new technologies in its devices have slowed down lately. A company like Apple, strives on the sales of its smartphones and can get away with smartphones that might be redundant in experience. That’s been the case for Apple’s 2018 models the Xs, XR and the XS MAX. It was, at best, a minimal upgrade from the iPhone X, which shook the world with how it completely disrupted the smartphone industry. After all the initial fuss, maybe Apple thought of taking a breath and the 2018 models were perfect examples of the slowing down of innovation on Apple’s part. However, Apple, as usual got away with it, and the sales were satisfactory. There was one country, though, where it still plays catch up: China.

Apple’s problem is not going away in China, even with lowered iPhone prices. That is one attractive statement, ’lowered iPhone prices’. Although we don’t hear that much, but when we do, its lures us to get the latest of Apple’s products with the legacy that the brand has established. China, however, thinks otherwise. Apple slashed the prices of its smartphones in China due to weakening sales. While it did pick up for a few weeks, analysts are of the opinion that it won’t do much to change things overall.

UBS’s Timothy Arcuri is reported to have said “……Apple’s price adjustments to offset the currency impact are not yet having much positive impact on iPhone units,”. However, he believes February and march will be “more important indicators”.

This might worsen with US-China deeply involved in a trade war, which doesn’t seem to end anytime soon. To make matters even worse, Apple’s Chinese competitors, Huawei, Xiaomi and OPPO would be active this time of the year with MWC underway. The introduction of flagships from you direct competitors drastically effects a company’s sales, and since Apple’s timeline suggests that we wont be seeing a new phone until the end of the year, these are some difficult months ahead for the Tech Giant!
