Facebook have sent a delegation to meet with the FIA Pakistan

In the latest, it has been found that a Facebook management team from the Asia Pacific Headquarters has called on the Director-General (DG) Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) at his office in Islamabad. The development holds importance in the backdrop of an ongoing deadlock between Asia Internet Coalition (AIC) and the government of Pakistan because of the government’s proposal to add regulatory laws on social media. 

In addition, the delegation was led by Amber Hawkes who is the Head of Safety Policy, APAC, and the team in turn discussed many different issues which were related to cooperation and data sharing between the two parties. The central aim of this meeting in particular was to take in to account cybercrime awareness among social media users in Pakistan and the importance of taking measures which can in turn help create more security on social media for the users. 

FIA revealed this in a press release on Tuesday, saying that Director General, Cyber Crime Wing (CCW), Waqar Ahmed Chohan and Assistant Director, CCW, Ehsan Sadiq were the members who were present at the meeting. ADG Ahsan Sadiq briefed the Facebook team on CCW’s fight against cybercrimes and in turn also highlighted the necessary initiatives. 

Facebook’s team assured the FIA of their commitment to work in collaboration with FIA’s Cyber Crime Wing to in turn reduce the amount of cybercrimes in the country which is of course a cause of worry for many. In addition to things, the Facebook delegation have also offered FIA an option to train their officers on the latest social media trends and techniques, in a bid to help them understand the way the social media operates and how they can use these skills to make such platforms more secure and safe. 

Furthermore, both parties have also agreed on accelerating the relevant information sharing as required by CCW, FIA, related to the investigation of cybercrimes. The meeting has in turn also decided that FIA will nominate focal people from each province to cooperate with Facebook to in turn get the required data to help investigate the cybercrimes, especially against children and women in Pakistan.
