Galaxy Z Flip and DxOMark

The biggest attraction that the Galaxy Z Flip brings is the fact that it features with a foldable screen. Though in addition to the screen, it has also proven out to be a very pocketable phone but Samsung has in fact been advertising the clamshell’s possibilities in the world of photography – this allowing for angles as well as views that would otherwise be difficult to achieve – especially in rigid rectangular blocks. This flexibility would then be irrelevant though if the device’s cameras would’ve been terrible – fortunately, they aren’t. But they may not be too great either.

The Galaxy Z Flip features with only two main cameras, both of whom are 12MP sensors, one of which is an ultra-wide lens. And so it is clear that Samsung wasn’t looking to invest too much in the cameras of this $1400 device while other manufacturers such as Google as well as Apple having proved that more can be achieved with little. Anyways, DxOMark did carry out its own tests to see how credible the Z Flip is. The results aren’t exactly too surprising.

All in all, the camera performance is indeed noted to being respectable – going on to produce accurate exposures and white balance in general. The ultra-wide in its own right is noted to be quite decent with its focal length being more wider than most phones available in the market.

Though on the other hand, the phone’s cameras seems as if they could actually do better when it comes to low-light as well as night-time photography. In fact, details also seem to be on the low side, this though unsurprising given the sensor.

Scoring an average of 105, the Galaxy Z Flip makes its way right into the middle of DxOMark’s list – being even below some of 2018’s flagship devices. While the hardware that the phone packs wouldn’t have suggested otherwise than what DxOMark has, considering the phone is priced so highly, there should’ve been much more on offer!
