Higher Education Commission (HEC) is ultimtely in contributing Pakistan’s Socio-economic development to provide the country with highly qualified human resources, with the provision of foreign scholarships to Pakistani students.
Since 2013, the commission is continuously following its tradition of awarding foreign scholarships to the Pakistani talented students who are interested to avail the opportunity and also eligible for award. The scholarships that HEC awards are including Masters,  MS and PhD levels.
3807 out of the 5780 scholars, who have joined different universities of the different  academically advanced countries on the globe under Higher Education Commission overseas scholarship programmes are back now after the completion of their studies.
The scholars have completed their studies from the top ranked universities of Australia, Austria, Belarus, Belgium, Canada, China, Cuba, Denmark, France, Germany, Hong Kong, Hungary, Italy, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, Thailand, Turkey, United States and the United Kingdom.
How the System Works
The students who are interested in overseas scholarship programmes and waiting to avail the opportunity should remember that HEC will advertise the programme  and the interested students can apply for this scheme if they meet the eligibility criteria.
HEC’s advertised scheme will require at least 50 percent marks in the aptitude test and HEC will conduct the test itself.
After the test is conducted,  merit lists will be prepared on the basis of aptitude test and academic score.
Only the short listed students will secure admission or acceptance letter before interview.
Finally,  the foreign professors will select the candidates through interview, and the final students would be advised to get a visa of the host country.
Higher Education Commission will provide the selected students with one-way airfare and two months stipend in advance. The stipend will be provided in the form of cross cheque that can’t be deposited other than the scholar’s account.
While the rest of the scholarship amount will be remitted on annual basis in the bank accounts of either Pakistan’s high commissions’  or HEC’s partner institution, and they will be remitting the funds to HEC’s scholars’ accounts on a monthly basis.
Future of PhD faculty in Pakistan:
To overcome the country’s growing higher education requirements,  HEC Vision 2025 focuses upon the increment of the number of PhD students in Pakistan. Higher Education Commission is planning to take the number of PhD faculty in the country’s higher education institutions to around 40,000.
Numerous overseas and indigenous PhD schemes will assist HEC in producing qualified faculty in various disciplines to serve in different institutions throughout the Pakistan.
