The new Volvo XC40 has been unveiled

Aiming primarily at the urban drivers, Volvo has launched its new entry-level small SUV, the XC40.

The Range Rover Evoque, Mercedes-Benz GLA and Audi Q3 are its closest rivals but the fact remains fact and the SUV is arguably more stylish than any of its competitors.

The new model is on sale in Britain and is priced from £28,000, and with deliveries starting early 2018.

The Swedish firm Volvo claims this car to be its first ever premium compact SUV,  one of the increasing number of subdivisions of the growing ‘sports utility’ market segment.

The company has historically been known for its upmarket estate cars, and the more recent XC90 and XC60 SUVs.

The XC40 has inherited its looks from XC90 and XC60 SUVs.  A great deal of the technology for these cars sets them apart from their rivals.

The most impressive point is that the car XC60  closely resembles the XC90 -the most expensive and larger one- in terms of quality and comfort. And to find these similarities in XC40 becomes extraordinarily exclusive.

As choices differ person to person and there is no assurance that everyone would love its rear pillar but to me, it looks great. Just take a look at the blind spot what you think about it?

If we compare it to the XC60’s 4688mm and the XC90’s 4950mm the XC40 that enhances the appeal of the Volvo brand measures 4425mm long.

Volvo boss Håkan Samuelsson says,

“It represents a fresh, creative and distinctive new member of the Volvo line-up.”

Volvo XC40 interior

Like its predecessors,  the cabin seems to be pleasing having two diesel engines and three petrol engines available, to begin with.

The power ranges of the thus model are 150hp to 250hp and the entry-level 156hp T3 petrol all are available with all-wheel-drive.

A hybrid version of the car is expected in due course. But what looks odd with this firm is its fossil fuel launch with firm’s electric ambitions announced earlier this year.

The standard equipment includes:

A 9-inch touchscreen, sat-nav, Spotify, and a mobile phone application allowing its owners to control certain aspects of the car (e.g the heater) remotely.

All XC40s externally come with 18-inch alloys and LED headlights.

Like13-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also available optionally.

Infotainment

The XC40 comes with several infotainment toys as standard and is best known for sophisticated cabins.

Its 432-litre boot space is more than the Evoque but much less than the Volkswagen Tiguan.

The car is ready to order now, and deliveries are expected to begin early 2018.

Care by Volvo – a new model of vehicle ownership?

Volvo is also introducing another product, Called Care by Volvo, that amounts to an all-inclusive subscription service and bundles vehicle rental, insurance, maintenance, breakdown cover and concierge services into the monthly payment.

This service is only available within the M25 till now but the company anticipates adding to its services like cleaning to the list of Care by Volvo services, and its pioneering in-car delivery system allowing couriers to leave items bought online in a customer’s boot, in due course.

Volvo XC40 two-tone paint

The Volvo XC40 will be available in the two-tone paint job, though not if you like the Care by Volvo subscription package.

Company CEO Håkan Samuelsson says,

“With Care by Volvo, we introduce a new car access for the modern age. In a time where consumers are used to transparent flat-fees for all sort of services, the traditional process of buying and owning a car can be perceived rather complicated. Care by Volvo changes all of that.”

T5 or D4 Momentum model will be available with this only package at the time of launch.

T5 or D4 Momentum is an entry-level car that will cost £629 per month over twenty-four months. The insurance covers up to three people, aged between 25 and 80 with at least one year’s no claims bonus and the maximum of three penalty points.
