Pakistan Planning to Test 5G Network by 2020

Currently, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has disseminated handouts concerning the plans to set up testing the 5G network by the year 2020. After 4G next edge in network services is the 5G.

At the moment, PTA is putting down the foundation for the testing of the network prior to progressing it out at the end of testing period. PTA also permits mobile phone network providers to submit an application for the 5G spectrum. For the Technology Evolution & Roadmap to 5G workshop which was held in Islamabad PTA is working with Qualcomm. Qualcomm is one of the largest technology companies around the globe and such an affiliation is intended to get quick and consistent results.

Dr. Syed Ismail Shah PTA Chairman said, “The government would smooth the progress of all existing as well as new companies to test 5G in Pakistan. In the form of free test license and spectrum, facilities would be provided to companies. In the 3.5 GHz band Harmonized spectrum for 5G is available. An EOI [Expression of Interest or invite for applications] would be proposing at the appropriate time to measure interest in conducting a test before the standard is confirmed in the year 2020.”

Anusha Rahman, the MoIT (Ministry of Information and Technology), Pakistan will be the foremost nation in South Asia to launch the 5G technology. Even more prominent is the fact that Pakistan will be amid the first countries alongside China, UK, US and South Korea to launch the 5G network in 2020. The next three years will present various countries an opportunity to trial out the capabilities of the network system before rolling it out. Provided that a lot has to be improved over the current 4G network, hopefully, by 2020, the network will be accessible but the three years will be filled with various tests and runs to accomplish the goal.

Although AT&T has advertised what it calls 5G Evolution, it is just an upgraded version of the 4G network. By the end of the year, AT&T will be rolling out its network over 20 cities said by officials.

In mobile broadband technology, the 5th generation will be launched with an endeavor from the entire technology industry with firms such as Qualcomm, Intel, ZTE and many others tossing in their vast contribution.
