Samsung Galaxy S9 & Note 9 will be supported by heat pipes. The challenging smartphone market is causing the smartphone components to become more and more powerful to generate more heat under heavy multitasking. This multitasking gives to a need for cooling solutions to keep the phones running at optimal temperature.

Numerous manufacturers has adopted different cooling solutions in past couple of years including Samsung. And now Samsung is using heat pipes to cool down the system since the Galaxy S7.

A new report says that Samsung would keep using the heat pipes in their upcoming flagships in 2018. These flagships will include the Galaxy S9 and Note 9.

Samsung Galaxy S9 is not far from its launch. It is expected to come in March next year and will feature state of the art hardware. So a top of the line hardware would generate more heat and obviously Samsung requires heat pipes to cool it down.

A major problem there is with all these cooling systems is the cost. These cooling systems are making the phones more expensive but Samsung is still going to utilise it for its upcoming year’s flagship devices.

Various mobile phone companies are also considering vapor chambers for their cooling system. But they face 2 problems with the vapor chambers. One problem is that they are even more expensive than heat pipes will increase the prices of smartphones a lot. While the 2nd problem is that they are bigger in size so it is not yet possible to put them in today’s sleeker and slimmer phones. However, manufacturers of the flagships are reducing the size of vapor chambers and it is expected that they will be featured in flagship phones by the year 2019.

Manufacturers do only use such cooling systems in their flagship devices for some specific reasons. The 1st reason, as mentioned above, is that the cooling system costs more and it is not going to be feasible to use it on mid-range and low-end devices. Furthermore, lower end devices do use moderate hardware which is not resource hungry and does produce less heat. So there is no requirement to use them on lower end devices.

So, it can be expected that the Galaxy S9 and Note 9 are going to cost a lot because of its use of the latest technology.

The S9, is expected to come with Samsung’s own Exynos 9810 chipset which had been unveiled a few days ago.

The chipset has a 3G custom Samsung cores and an upgraded GPU.

Although Samsung has not given details about the new GPU. However, expectations are that the new GPU will be Mali-G72. The chipset would get manufactured on 10nm architecture so Samsung is not moving towards 8nm or 7nm architecture.

Mali-G72 will be the first chipset to support up to 1. Gbps LTE connectivity speed.
