The US may allow Huawei to work on 5G standard with the country’s firms

In accordance with what the latest reports have to say, the US Department of Commerce has nearly signed off on a new rule which will allow the Chinese manufacturer in Huawei to work with American based companies so as to set standards for 5G networking. The US may allow Huawei to work on 5G standard with the country’s firms.

This comes as huge news because of the past circumstances that had existed – where Huawei was actually placed on the “Entity List” just last year by the US Commerce Department. This blacklisting meant that the Chinese company would lose its privileges with US companies, as Huawei would no longer buy or trade with such companies and even lost Google’s support in the process. Also the ban meant that Huawei could no longer work on providing 5G equipment to various companies based in the US.

Now though, it seems as if the tide is turning in favor of Huawei as the US government seems to be backtracking on the decision it made last year – as there now exist plans to bring Huawei’s major influence back into the mix. Both industry as well as government officials from within the US have expressed their concern regarding the fact that the ban on Huawei has not just been harsh on Huawei, but has also put US at a disadvantage.

And so with that said, the latest speculation does indeed conclude that the Commerce Department is in fact close to drafting a new rule which will address the current situation. While the rule will indeed be subject to change, it will indeed essentially allow US companies to participate in standard bodies as Huawei will also be inducted as a member!

As of now, the draft is still undergoing the final review stage and will be clear once other agencies also proceed on to offer their approval on the matter. The process is only likely to get further complicated if other agencies present any objections that they might have – whether or not that will happen, we can only wait and see.
