Trading with Rivals; Apple Display gets unexpected vendors….

All the way back in June, it was reported that LG had struck a deal with Apple, with LG agreeing to supporting OLED displays to Apple for its latest flagship phone, the iPhone XS Max. While these reports were actually well documented, it looks now that this isn’t the case.

Now, according to some more recent reports, the OLED display that is present on the iPhone XS Max is actually made by Samsung Display. This isn’t the first time that the two rivals have been in business together, as Samsung has had a history of making the previous iPhone displays, as well. But whatever happened to the deal that was struck between LG and Apple?

It is being reported that allegedly, the reason as to why Apple struck a deal with LG was to drive down the prices that they had to pay for the OLEDs, in order to create the high quality screen that we see present on the iPhones. It is actually true that one of the main reasons why the iPhones are so expensive is because of the high prices that Apple has to pay for the OLEDs that make them in the first place.

So with Apple’s strategy in mind, since Apple was pretty much reliant on Samsung to make its displays, Samsung had little incentive to drop down the prices. However, if Apple actually partnered up with LG, then the competition would’ve ideally driven the prices down for Apple, just because of the fact that they had a bargaining chip.

So now we question whether the sole reason as to why Apple entered into an agreement with LG was to drive down the expensive OLED prices from Samsung. But since they had an agreement, whatever happened to it? Or might it be true that there was never any agreement whatsoever between the two companies? Were these all just rumors?

There is no confirmation on either side of LG or Apple whether or not there was any sort of agreement between the two. However, one thing is for sure – if these two actually had made good on the alleged agreement, then the high prices of OLED displays that are given out by Samsung would’ve certainly fell down. Apple isn’t only company that relies upon Samsung to make the OLED displays, as there are many others too; as there is little doubt in the opinion that Samsung makes the best displays in the whole of the industry.
