Facebook to “review” policies in light of outrage

The CEO of Facebook in Mark Zuckerberg recently released a rather lengthy statement on his personal page claiming that not only does he support the Black Lives Matter movement, but he also will begin engaging in a series of reviews of company policy in light of all the outrage that Facebook has been on the receiving end of. In particular, the billionaire claimed that he along with company leadership proceeded to review the controversial stance that has been adopted around “threats of state use of force.”

Shortly after Zuckerberg made his post, the richest man in the world in Jeff Bezos too followed as he too shared a post on his Instagram account a post which went on to pledge support for the movement. Moreover, Bezos also went on to detail an email explain in which he went on to explain the true meaning of the phrase to a customer that actually complained about the Black Lives Matter banner that Bezos and his company took upon themselves to show.

Over the course of the past few days, Zuckerberg has been under intense criticism and has had to constantly defend the decision he and his company took in not taking action against the posts by US president Donald Trump on his company’s platform. Twitter on the other hand took action it dubbed Trump’s actions as glorifying violence.

Zuckerberg has also had to deal with outrage from within Facebook as both public as well as employee response has made sure that there has been widespread outrage. Indeed employees staged their first ever walkout earlier this week while dozens of former employees of Facebook made their opinions known by writing open letters in which they condemned his decision. In fact, the situation has even led to some high-profile resignations. Moreover, Zuckerberg has also said that Facebook will also be starting the process of reviewing how it handles the violation of content which departs from the company’s binary, leave-it-up or take-it-down approach.
