TRUMP WILLING TO TALK, BUT HOW WILLING IS MODI TO LISTEN

Pakistan and India don’t  have a good history when it comes to table talks and have not been able to resolve issues by discussing and would rather have war settle it for them. But since both countries now possess nuclear power, it immediately becomes a matter which requires intervention from a third party to resolve the matter. That’s where Trump comes into play. After PM Khan’s visit to US, he was very hopeful that the two countries would be sitting together with Trump as the mediatory and figure out a solution. However, India claimed it to be an internal matter and would not allow any third party’s intervention. This statement by India was considered to be void and an immediate solution to the Kashmir issue was demanded by the UN.

The UNSC meeting did little to make India realise its role in the genocide occurring in Kashmir and Trump could see matters go past the boiling point and therefore has said that he would be discussing the matter with Modi in France.

Kashmir is a very complicated place. You have Hindus and you have the Muslims and I wouldn’t say they get along so great,I will do the best I can to mediateI really get along with both (Mr Modi and Mr Khan) of them. As you know, Prime Minister Khan was here just recently. I will be with PM Modi … over the weekend in France, I think, we are helping (resolve the tense) situation

Although this gives a little bit of hope towards a settlement, a senior official of the US department has clarified Trump’s statement as he would only be mediating should both countries agree to it and currently it is clear that India does not want to. After conversations with both Premiers, Trump took to twitter to describe the conversations

Spoke to my two good friends, Prime Minister Modi and Prime Minister Khan … most importantly, for India and Pakistan to work towards reducing tensions in Kashmir

US does not seem to be the solution to this problem as India as shown by the complete disregard of UN’s decision of holding political talks over Kashmir and ending the mass torture.
